Receiptify

Receiptify is an online application and tool to generate the top 10 or top 50 tracks, genres, and artists’ receipts from users’ Spotify listening history. This app was developed by Michelle Liu, an informational Systems student at Carnegie Mellon University in September 2020.

Receiptify

Inspired by the Instagram account @albumreceipts, which presents album tracklists in a receipt format, she takes this concept to the next level for Spotify users by giving a more personalized Spotify receipts experience. More interesting is that she created this app in one day and later shared it on Twitter, where it quickly gained viral popularity.

What Is Receiptify Spotify

Receiptify Spotify

Receiptify Spotify is a feature on the Receiptify platform for Spotify users. Through integration with the official Spotify API, this tool provides an opportunity for users to create a receipt of their top tracks, artists, and genres for a period such as the last month, the last six months, or the last year’s listening history.

The format of this receipt is like a store shopping receipt. Each track is listed as an ”item”, the play count represents the ”quantity” and the song duration is displayed as the ”AMT”. The receipt also includes the user’s Spotify username printed at the top hence making it a real experience

You just need to follow the above steps but in this case, you will only choose to log in with your Spotify account and let the app access your listening history. Again, select your desired time frame as well as the top 10 or 50 tracks you need. Wait a few seconds and once done then download the receipt.

How to Share Spotify Receipts

You can easily share your music receipt and discuss your top songs and artists. Once you have downloaded your receipt image, you can share it by:

  • Posting it on your social media accounts like Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
  • Sharing a direct link of your receipt, if you want to avoid uploading an image.

Many users enjoy posting this receipt on Instagram Stories or in their feed as well, often having conversations with friends about shared music tastes. It’s a fun and nostalgic way to enjoy your favorite songs together.

Advanced Features of Receiptify

Beyond the basic functionality of generating music receipts, Receiptify has some advanced features that enhance the user experience:

  • Receiptify’s AI: This Receiptify AI feature called ”What Your Music Says About You” now lets you analysis of your music taste and generate a description of what your receipt says about you as a listener.
  • Build Custom Receipt: If you want to make a more personalized one, choose this option to build your receipts with a custom receipt title and your desired tracks, no need for any top 10 tracks.
  • Playlist creation: Besides seeing your top songs receipt, you can create Spotify playlists from it, making it simple to enjoy your most-played tracks again.
  • Search Albums: The ability to search for and generate receipts for specific albums, rather than just your overall listening history is awesome to try once.

Is Receiptify Safe To Use?

Just like with any other third-party application that needs access to personal data, you may have concerns regarding safety and privacy. However, you don’t need to worry about it because:

  • Receiptify doesn’t retain any of your personal Spotify information on its servers. It only pulls your listening history to generate the receipt when you log in.
  • The app utilizes the official Spotify API and authentication process, which means that you do not share your login details directly with the app.
  • You have the option to revoke its access to your Spotify account at any time through your Spotify settings.

If you are okay with having the application access to your Spotify listening history then there is no problem using Receiptify.

Troubleshooting Using Receiptify

While Receiptify is generally reliable some users may have issues when trying to generate their receipts. Here are a few common problems and solutions:

  • Website not loading: If the website isn’t loading, try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.
  • Spotify login issues: Make sure you’re using the correct login credentials for your Spotify account. If you’re still having trouble, try logging out of Spotify and then logging back in.
  • Inaccurate data: If your receipt isn’t showing your real listening history, it might be because there’s a delay in syncing between Spotify and Receiptify. Wait a few hours and try generating your receipt again.
  • Missing tracks or artists: Receiptify only includes tracks and artists that are available on Spotify. If you’ve been listening to local files or music from other sources, they won’t appear on your receipt.
